A recent report from the Economist Intelligence Unit entitled Big data evolution: forging new corporate capabilities for the long term is looking into the evolution of Big Data and what companies can do to make the most of the data they collect.

Some of the key findings include:

  • Over the past 5 years, an increasing number of companies have come to regard and manage data as a strategic corporate asset.
  • Strategic data management is correlated with strong financial performance.
  • Data initiatives are starting to focus on solving real and pressing business problems (e.g. such as gender pay gap).
  • The future of big data is about the value it can bring to business.

The report also highlights ways in which companies have changed their attitudes towards data since 2011 as it has become big tool for business development.
